Personally, I'd rather they didn't release that information as an accurate count will only allow the currently holders to drive the price of an already obscenely expensive minipet beyond it's current astronomical value.

Yeah, quite a small number if you ask me.
I'd personally be happier if the Polar bear was made available for 1500 shards, yes 1500. That way it'd take work for it, but not be a Panda rarity clone. Of course this comes from someone who DOESN'T have a Panda..

I agree with putting it in the Secret lair of the snowmen, even with the same drop rate, so at least we could try for it.

well if only 10 of them exist at the moment no price is obscene 3-4 million players and only 10 mini pb at that number you should not even have enough room in the trade window for all the armbraces and ectos that it is worth, let me refrase that, they are priceless at the moment.
I could understand your QQ about the price of them if a couple thousand or a few hundred thousand droped but not 10 or even 20 or 100 that is still a outragous number compared to the player base of a few million.

What does it matter?
The drop rate was really low. I know someone who did the run over 300 times and didn't get the polar bear.
If people want to spend 1000s of Ectos (How the heck can they have that many I don't know) on an odd looking mini-pet, then let them

I think your numbers are quite a bit high. Over 4 million accounts have been sold, yes, but there are a lot of people who have multiple accounts, there are a lot of people that never played or have stopped playing, there are lots of bot accounts and I'm sure there are thousands of banned accounts. But I generally agree with what you are saying.

That's the point... I don't want to buy it, I want a chance to find it.
(Yes, 7 hours of farming here...)

Before I address the above, let me say that I am thoroughly grateful that ANet gives us these types of events. For me personally - not so much for the special quests, but moreso for the opportunity to horde stuff like sweets and booze that I need for Drunkard and Sweet Tooth titles. I know not everyone cares about stuff like this, but that's just my view
Also, my only two real gripes about the event are:
(a) the 'sudden' removal of the Gift Giver collector (even though I luckily had already redeemed all my shards). I can see why this has upset quite a few folks - but really it should be very easy on ANet's part to fix: just add back the collector for a few more days - and in the future give the community fair warning when the collector will disappear.
(b) and of course, the forever-to-be-remembered 'mini-polar-bear fiasco' Personally I'm not upset that I didn't get one - and I'm very happy for those who did. I guess my only issues are the apparently very low drop-rate, and the fact that most of us didn't know of the existence of the little critter until the last day of the event. But oh well, again I'm sure ANet can figure out a way to address this for future minipets.
Which brings me to my point regarding the quote.
ZOMG! Give everyone this pet now!?!
All you need to do is put yourself in the shoes of the individual who apparently forked over 7300 ectos (36.5 million!!! ) for this mini. How in the world would that make you feel if you were this person - and then ANet turns around and gives the mini-bear to the entire player-base? Wow. That would be infinite times more painful than not getting the mini in the first place - wouldn't it? {/agree}
Just some food for thought And why I think this should be addressed for future minis and not this one...

Yes ANET please extend Wintersday this year. Last year it was rather short. Wintersday should be for about 2 weeks when many players are on break.

I sure hope there is some poor guy/gal that plays maybe once a month that received his presents and got one never to show it or even use it. Tucked away in inventory till the servers go down. That would be Classic.
At least a 100 out there is my guess

I doubt they will ever tell us how many dropped. It was an insanely low amount thats for sure. I did that quest 60 times at least. But meh thanks for all the nog and fruitcakes.

Just another mini pet. Doesn't take much to get people worked up now a days. :P People only want what they cannot acquire. If the drop rate was higher and people got them, everyone would say "blah whatever, another pet to take up inventory.." It is not particularly "cool" like say a water djinn or a charr shaman.

For any of you who think that the mini pet will appear in the Chest of Wintersday Past.

The only chest that will provide the Miniature Polar Bear is the Wintersday Chest, and that will be gone very soon, likely sometime tonight. Will it return during Wintersday 2008? That's pretty likely.

This is from the thread by Witchblade that brought the mini pet to Guru users. So it looks like we have to wait till next year to farm the little guy some more.

Not everyone feels that way about minipets. The ones I have either have a "cuteness" factor or sentimental value. I could care less if they are rare or not and I'm sure there are many more like me.

QFT, i prefer the black moa chick to the kanaxaii for example because it looks all that much better to me. same goes for other minis, and i'd rather have a common polar mini for it's cuteness than market value.
